Hannah Quay is a Pennsylvania artist that works in the realm of depicting the complex human body and its way of showing emotions and movement through realistic portraiture drawing. She started off working in black and white by using just charcoal and graphite to portray these works, however she is currently experimenting with different materials such inks, markers and pastels in a variety of colors to help make a greater impact.
Hannah’s work looks at the raw emotion portrayed by everyday people, herself and family included. She is currently influenced by the sensations experienced while living with a disability. She portrays these reactions in a realistic style to tell the story behind the emotion. Her exploration in color within her works enhances the emotion only by a fraction, representing what is already shown to the viewer. She hopes that she can shed some light about her own disability, and have viewer’s empathize with her feelings and possibly others who may be going through the same thing as she has or something similar.
